MADE MEN finalizing events

The Southeastern Louisiana University house of MADE Men focused on finalizing plans for their upcoming event Young, Black, and Gifted during their assembly meeting, Monday, Feb. 20.

Jamal Cavalier, marketing specialist, and parliamentarian went over the outline for the upcoming event, Young, Black, and Gifted on Wednesday night, Feb. 22. Cavalier discussed the cost of the DJ and the schedule of the performers. Members are expected to arrive at 5 p.m.

He assigned other members in the organization their jobs for the event and allowed members to trade jobs among themselves. Troy Evans replaced D’Andre Nolden as the hosts for the event.

“This event is a free event. Everything is free for everyone participating. Admission, performance signups, and no vendor fees. In order to give all participants a platform to display their talents,” Cavalier stated.

Young, Black, and Gifted is a talent showcase mixed with a pop-up shop, where poets, musicians and/ or artists can display their gifts while also allowing clothing brands and other businesses the opportunity to sell its products.

This is the second time MADE Men has hosted the YB&G. The function was comprised of the advancement committee. Terrance Arnold, Chairman of Advancement assigned Wallace Harris as the co-chairman of the event.
Arnold said, “I believe that Wallace can make this event bigger than it was last year. We’ve been planning the YB&G since August and I support his vision of the program.”

Cavalier said that he would send the outline detailed on the band and then the discussion moved on to future fundraising events. then the topic of Young, Black, and Gifted was ceased.

The fundraising committee discussed its future fundraising events. The fundraising committee is planning a potential plate fundraiser. The committee hopes to raise at least $300 with the event.

Darnell Butler, president of MADE Men placed the motion to approve the fundraiser and Harris seconded the motion. YB&G was approved, and the meeting continued.

The fundraising committee would give an update on the plate plans in the upcoming meeting, Feb. 25.

Faron Bordeaux, vice president of finance, asked for members to pay their membership dues, while Harris updated the organization on the new members meeting.

Butler and Rodney Green, vice president for advancement, updated the assembly about his expectations for the organization this semester. They urged the members of MADE Men to try and uphold their image on campus to keep a positive identity on campus.

The meeting ended with a prayer and the next one will be Feb. 25 at the usual time, 7 p.m.
