Students here at Southeastern Louisiana University have mixed opinions about U.S. President Donald Trump and the Mueller Report.

The Mueller Report was released to the public in April. The report has not changed many students’ opinions about President Trump. The report either increased students’ opinions or made it stay the same. In fact, many students’ opinion towards the president was made before the Mueller Report was released.

Wallace Harris, sophomore sports management major stated, “I really do not like Trump. I do not know why people voted for him. After the Mueller Report investigation, I believe that he should have never been president. He should be impeached.”

The approval of Trump as the nation’s president has always been a hot topic. Some students say they will never approve of him. There are some students who dislike him because of his supporters because some of Trump’s supporters have shown to have racist views. Even his policy of immigration has made some not like him.

Kairon Jones, sophomore sports management said, “I will never support him. I think he has racist supporters and until he condemns their actions then I will not respect him. His beliefs of a safer country have caused many Latinos and other immigrants to become separated from their families. I cannot support him for that.”

Race and immigration are only a couple of problems people have with Trump. Even though Trump was indicted, or the process of impeachment has not started, he has done things many people think are not presidential even illegal to some. The Mueller Report has nothing to do with a lot of people’s opinion on Trump.

Destini Austin, a nursing major, stated, “I wasn’t a fan of Donald Trump because I felt like he shouldn’t be President because he had no political experience. I felt the office of the Presidency should have high standards. Yes, this is America and he had the right as an American to run for President, but I felt that candidates should have to meet certain moral and ethical requirements and have some sort of qualifications for the highest office in this country. But, when he actually won the election, I was ready to give him a chance. I felt, as President, he deserved a certain amount of respect. So, I was very disappointed to see that not only did he have no respect for himself, but he had no respect for women. The things that came out of his mouth (grab them by the pussy) was not very presidential but it was very disrespectful and for the first time in my life, I felt the President of the United States of America was a big embarrassment to our country and other world leaders were soon laughing at him. Since he was such a successful businessman, I actually expected him to be more disciplined. The country soon learned that you never know what is going to come out of his mouth. I feel that his undisciplined tongue further divides this nation. The worst part is, no citizen should have to wonder if their President is a pawn for the Russians. It’s one thing to be accused of paying off porn stars(prostitutes) to keep quiet; that speaks volumes about his morals. And it’s another thing to not want to disclose his tax return. It makes one wonder, what is the President hiding from American citizens? But to have members of his family meeting and speaking with the Russians is scary. Do the Russians have dirt on him? Is the dirt related to possibly illegal real estate dealings or is it something more sinister? Can he be trusted or is he secretly working for the Russians?”

Even though many students do not like Trump. There are some who like him better as a leader than a person.

Ashton Jones stated, “I do not think people give him a benefit of the doubt. He is our president not our friend, he is supposed to do what’s best for the country. We are obviously not all going to like his personal beliefs, but he has made our economy better and is trying to get the best for us in world affairs. I think he’s just like every other human being. He has his flaws, but he is a good leader.”

It seems like the Mueller Report did not have a real effect on the SLU student body opinion. Most students have held their view on him since he took office. It does not seem like will be gaining supporters or enemies from the Mueller Report.
