Odell Beckham has been traded to the Cleveland Browns; the former New York Giants star receiver was traded for safety Jabrill Peppers, the 17th overall pick and the 95th pick in this year’s draft.

On Tuesday, both teams’ general managers, John Dorsey, the Browns general manager, and Dave Gettleman, the Giants general manager, agreed to the trade. The trade shocked everyone because the Giants had given Beckham a contract extension last summer. Gettleman had also stated he was not going to trade Beckham numerous times before last week’s trade.

The Giants are now expected to enter a rebuild of the team. They have lost a lot of young players and their starting quarterback is about to retire. Andrew Crawford, a Giants fan and a freshman of Southeastern Louisiana University believes that his team is making a mistake. “We just drafted a great running back. All we had to do was draft a quarterback to replace Eli. Now we might even lose the running back too.”

Meanwhile, the Browns rebuild seems to be almost over after almost two decades of losing. Dorsey has been drafting, trading and signing players that have made an impact on the field immediately for the last two years. He had recently conducted trade with the Giants two weeks ago that sent over defensive linemen Olivier Vernon. Many players around the league, as well as fans, are applauding his approach for the Browns’ rebuild plans.

Christopher Fortin, a freshman at Southeastern Louisiana University stated, “John Dorsey is a genius. I’ve been telling people the Browns were on the come up. Oh my God, they have Mayfield, Jarvis, Duke Johnson, Chubb, and Hunt. And now Odell! I am sad Peppers is gone but if Odell was the price, I will get over it. The Browns finally have a squad. I always knew it. That’s why I root for them and play with them on Madden.”

The Browns will now have to focus on getting Beckham to maintain his star-studded numbers in an offense that features other good players. While also trying to deal with Beckham, who some belief is a locker room problem. The team has until early September to try and get Beckham installed into the offense.

Jalon Chatman, a sophomore at SLU said, “I feel like they’ll have a rough start in the beginning but then start to get information in the middle of the season but they probably not going make it past the second round in the playoffs because they still got to learn each other and the type of player Odell is, he might come off as controlling and try to take over as WR and Jarvis Landry is not going to like that.”

The Browns have excited fans with the trade. Now the fans must wait until September to see how the season will unfold.
