Hocus Pocus 2 casts a charm spell on those who gaze upon its delightful cast as they make fools of themselves in a clunky and unnecessary sequel — that’s better than the first time around!

The acting is fine and the production, while not the greatest, definitely isn’t cheap. However, the main attraction is the Sanderson sisters, who are on the cover of every poster and physical release. The film wastes no time introducing them and thrusting us into the meat of the film, which is about 60 minute of pure nostalgia…and other stuff we will talk about.

Watching three witches from the 17th century try to find the souls of children in a modern convenience store is perhaps a fair bit more entertaining than what I expected — especially from a sequel to the first Hocus Pocus. And then, when the film is about the step on the breaks, or become repetitive, we get an enjoyably indulging musical number.

It’s always unfortunate to report that the film is not all good: The side plots force the fast pace of the film to slow down to an almost hault. The side characters involved could fall off the face of the earth halfway through the film and I wouldn’t have batted an eye — but given that the entire plot is meaningless in its own right as a sequel that does not need to exist, I could see why someone wouldn’t hate the presence of more extraneous characters.

The only issue is trying to stretch this type of film to feature length. The mayhem gets less and less interesting as time goes on, so some films try to stop sooner, rather than later. This one stops later, and when it does, it’s hard to care. FAIR
