After speaking at two different workshops in the past week, I have identified a major (common) problem for young people who really want to do something meaningful in the world: Shiny Object Syndrome.

They have the passion. They have the drive. They have the skill.

But focus and direction? That’s nowhere to be found.

This is something I too struggled with for a long time. I’d even go as far as to say I was a “professional dabbler” even though, at the time, I disguised this lack of focus under the “multi-passionate” label which sounded much better.

I’m not quite sure how many different projects I started and no sooner stopped in my lifetime, but it was enough that people no longer took me seriously when I would spill my heart out about this “new thing” I was enamored with.

The good news? I’ve since overcome this SOS and have gained a deep understanding of it in the process.

I know how painful and frustrating it can be — and I know how much the world needs what you have to offer — so I want to help you overcome it as well. Here are the top two cause and cures for SOS. Read and then, most importantly, implement so that you too can free yourself from this plague and finally focus on one thing long enough to make the impact you want to have on the world.
