Two Years, Many Lessons

This past month, my business celebrated TWO years of grinding. Two years of muddy shoes, sweat (and some blood), popped resistance bands, multiple meltdowns, bootcamps and incredible memories.

Thankful, grateful, blessed… those just don’t cut it. The personal, professional and spiritual growth has been unparalleled to anything I have experienced before.

I have learned a shit ton along the way but there are some foundational lessons that remain at the forefront of the decisions I have made and will continue to make as an entrepreneur (and as a person).

A few of my incredible Grinders (and Grindterns), including the handsome stud (top left) and fellow Startup Islander, Sean Biava.

For those out there thinking about starting a business or just trying to live life on their own terms, I thought I’d share the “aha” moments that have been the foundation for me over these last 2 years…

1. GIVE ALL OF YOU TO THE WORLD.

Wear your heart fully and proudly on your sleeve (lets be real… your sports bra). Vulnerability has been the driving force for building long-lasting relationships and friendships with those around me and with myself. Don’t be afraid to look silly, crazy, naive or a mix of the 3 because each are beautiful in their own way and open up doors you could never imagine.

2. KNOCK AND KNOCK HARD.

You can’t sit around waiting for life to happen. You see something you want? Get the fuck after it. Go with self assurance and genuine intentions and knock on that door and when the person/opportunity answers, smile big af and let them know what’s up.

3️. SHARPEN THE SAW.

Spend a SHIT TON of time loving on/ discovering/challenging yourself. And don’t ever ever ever stop. Invest the same amount of time and energy you have on your education, your careers, your business, your outer appearance on discovering your soul. We are so conditioned to give our thoughts and energy to everything else that most of us have forgotten how to eliminate the noise and tune in. Its been the hardest/best/craziest/most fulfilling journey I’ve gone on so far. Take a class, read, dig your toes in the dirt and just listen. Listen and sharpen. Rinse and repeat.

4️. STICK TO YOUR WORD.

Like it’s fucking glued to your forehead. Because at the end of the day, your word is all you got. Own what you say, the choices you make and the way you make people feel. And if you fuck up, own that too.

5. CELEBRATE.

Every single day. Celebrate the birds, your bed, the mail woman, the tires on your car but especially celebrate the people in your life that support/guide/push/love you even in the smallest ways (hey #grindgang I’m talking to YOU!)

🎈With two years down and a lifetime of growth and grind to go, just want to say thank you. To everyone and everything that has made this possible. Stay true to you and NEVER STOP GRINDING!

Grind on,
Gert
