Drama
In a shocking blunder that left commentators dumbfounded this Friday, GM Fabiano Caruana (2792) struggled against underdog Anish Giri (2772) before blundering Rb6?? in the sixth round of the 2022 Tata Steel Chess Masters tournament.
Despite his win, Giri expressed disappointment in his performance after the game, remarking in the post-game press conference, “If I look at my games after the game, they’re so bad. Today … [my performance] was just such a disaster”.
Memes about Caruana’s blunder have flooded chess forums, and it appears like Caruana won’t be living his mistake down anytime soon. Nobody, not even grandmasters, are immune to mistakes.
