Economics of the Tech: Past, Present and Future

Hi! Techconomist here!

For the upcoming series of Tragic Letters from the Outskirts of the New Economy, I wanted to focus on the newest part of the economy there is. It goes well with my name. You guessed it! This series will focus on the economics of the technology sector. The series will be called Economics of the Tech: Past, Present and Future. Starting next week, a new article on the economics of tech will go up once every two weeks.

The series will keep the traditional Techconomist advice column format, but it will focus directly on the tech sector. I want to answer the questions people keep asking about that technology and forces shaping the evolution of the new economy. I find myself a highly technical person and will dive deep into how the architecture of these technologies will impact the future and by consequence impact you.

Here’s just some of what you have to look forward to if you stick around:

· How do Blockchain and Cryptocurrency work?

· Did Al Gore create the internet? What role did government play in creating the information age?

· Is the creator economy sustainable?

· What are the economic implications of Section 230? What are the potential economic costs and benefits of de-platforming?

· What’s up with the semiconductor shortage?

· Why is the future of tech so hard to predict?

· How well do Star Wars and other Sci-Fi properties fit with traditional economic principles?

The future is not where you think it is. Everyone gets it wrong because everyone has blinders on. They focus on one aspect of the future and they miss the mark. In reality, the most important parts of the future lie in the intersections between radically varying trends and forces. Economics of the Tech: Past, Present and Future will focus on the intersection of yesterday’s, today’s, and tomorrow’s forces to help demonstrate the fascinating way economics interacts with science and technology to build the future. Stay tuned in!

As always if you have questions about the economics of technology or the economics of anything, you should shoot me an email, and I will try to work it into a future article. Email me at Techconomist@gmail.com
