Equip:Men — Don’t Check Out

When I think the journey toward Biblical, authentic manhood, both in my own experience and as I watch and pastor young men toward and into it, one word comes to mind: PRIDE.

Don’t write me off just yet, please hear me out.

Whether you are a wife who’s looking at her husband or you are a man coming to grips with his own capacity to live this life well, our old man — the fleshy tendencies we all carry throughout our days on this planet — and his accomplish the Enemy, would love nothing more than for us to continue trying to run the race with this mindset:

I’m good. I can handle all of this on my own. I don’t need anyone else!

You see, what the enemy loves more than anything else is to see men isolated, cutoff from the company of others, and convince him that he can handle life as a lone ranger. This could not be farther from the truth; everyman, regardless of stage of life, race, position, social status, or the number of zeros in your bank statement was created to live life alongside brothers who have his back. This is God’s good design and plan for carrying out authentic, Biblical manhood.

We were made to need one another.

Over the four weeks of this next season of Equip:Men starting on 11/29, we the men of this church will gather together at 6:00am on Tuesday mornings in the worship space at Cornerstone for fellowship, teaching, and prayer. We invite you to bring brothers of other churches as well to be part of this gathering.

If the mark of sin on the world is the flourishing of pride across the world, what it needs is humble men who recognize that they are not God, that they need one another — to lean on and to count on when times are tough — to point us and the families we lead back God’s vision and plan for our lives.

Join us at 6:00am Tuesday mornings 11/29, 12/6, 12/13, and 12/20 over coffee and biscuits as we dig in to the God’s Word and continue our journey toward holiness…together.
