On Sunday mornings we are preaching through a series called “Limitless” and at the same time we are doing a church wide study of Mark Batterson’s book “If” in our community groups. I found this quote in Mark’s book last week and wanted to share it. He said,
Potential is God’s gift to us. Making the most of it is our gift back to God.
I love this quote! It is so true that every person has this gift of potential. In fact, we have all been given a gift to be used to fulfill that potential and expand God’s work here on earth. Paul says in 1 Corinthians that “each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.” The question is not “do we have gifts and abilities?”, it is “are we using them??”. We all have an unlimited capacity to serve God because we have His unlimited spirit living within us. The only limits we have are self-imposed or when we give in to the lies of the enemy. This can happen when we think we aren’t “good enough” or are not worthy to receive God’s grace or give in to fear of what other people think. This list could go on and on. In Romans 8:31 Paul writes,
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
That’s an incredible truth that we need to remember! If we have the all-knowing, all-powerful, creator of the universe on our side then what in this world do we have to fear?? The obvious answer is — nothing! As believers in Jesus saved by grace, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and backed by the one true God our potential is limitless. I pray that we are all making the most of the gifts entrusted to us. I pray that we are praying big prayers and stretching our faith beyond our comfort zones to see what God can do in and through us.
I think about some ways that you might “stretch” your faith right now at church by…
- Joining a community group
- Going on one of our upcoming missions trips
- Finding a place to serve
- Inviting a friend or neighbor to come to church with you
These are just a few ideas, but mostly I want you to pray and let God lead you to the place He needs you. And remember, He is FOR YOU! He wants you to find fulfillment and be shaped into the image of Christ. Let nothing hold you back!
See ya Sunday!
