Career Breaks Help You Reconnect, Reflect, and Recharge
A gap in your career is the best time to start working on yourself all over again
My career as a writer-editor spans over two decades. Sometimes I look back on the journey and wonder what it was all about.
There were times of too much work, and then times of no work, but plenty of learning and thinking in between.
I’ve also been part of what’s often referred to as the “revolving door” phenomenon, entering companies for a few years and then stepping out to do something on my own.
I’ve never been one to walk a linear path… There have been detours and then some more.
I look back and often think — have I built anything at all?
Yes, of course. A whole lot of experience and memories of great interactions with a host of people.
But still,
Time and again, I’ve come back to ground zero.
Thank God it doesn’t scare me.
It just feels like an empty space to build again.
Which brings me to a greater philosophical question — Is destruction the purpose of creation, then?
