What happens to your data if we shut down our service?

That’s a great question!

tl;dr: Your data would be safe and sound. You would still be able to access it with no difference for at least a year or two (This is only limited by when the iOS version stops supporting the last app update we would have released.)

The Cacti Vault is built to work right on your device. It does not require any backend or cloud system to work. The vault, the AI algorithm, your encrypted data — all stay right on your device. Once we release a version of the app on the App Store, our ability to impact or change that version of the app becomes very limited. It was designed to work this way to ensure your privacy and security.

An added advantage of this decision proves to be longevity of the service even if our team and service wrap up for some reason.

What we promise to do if we shut down?

We are in it for the lang-haul. This is sort of a passion project for us, and we are all avid users of the app. But, if it comes to shutting down the service, we will do the following.

  • We will be transparent and clearly inform you when and why we are shutting down our service as soon as we decide to do so.
  • We will push out all pending updates and take the app to the next stable state possible keeping the long-term sustenance in mind.
  • We may consider open-sourcing the entire app.
  • We will ensure that you would have continued access to the app and your data (limited by any iOS updates forcing the app to stop working).
  • We will ensure that you’re able to export your data out for posterity (which you can already do).
  • We will leave behind good documentation and resources so you may help yourself if you face any issues.

All that being said, we believe in the idea for the app and are constantly improving it. We have a huge set of features in the works to help keep your private and intimate data secure and easily accessible. We are in this for the long-haul.
