Champions Fantasy — Fantasista Tips for Gameweek 1
A new season of European football is upon us! Check out the first differentials brought to you by the best fantasy tipster out there.
And we’re back!
The Champions League kicks off today and a new season deserves a new ambition.
After a hard fought sixth place overall last season, your one and only Fantasista could only aim higher: win the whole thing!
So, if you are a newbie, don’t worry, it’s very simple: I only pick differentials.
With that in mind, here are the first four for the 22/23 edition of the UCL. One per each kick-off time.
Thomas Meunier | D | DOR | 5.0M | In 2% of teams
This one could easily be other Dortmund defender because we will have access to the starting lineups before the lock at 16:45 GMT. The Germans already have 3 cleanies in 5 Bundesliga games, and look well assured after all three of those cleanies being a “one nil” win. Meunier is a classic pick in fantasy games, complementing offensive threat with great numbers in duels won.
António Silva | D | SLB | 4.0M | In 4% of teams
A flashback from the past edition, when exactly in the first game week we were faced by the prospect of picking Morato, also at 4.0M, against Dynamo Kyiv. And yes, back then, he returned a “cleanie”.
Now it is a Morato injury that opens the door to highlight António as a phenomenal pick for GW1. In his two games for Benfica so far, 6.5 DW/g and 5 CBI/g. And also 2 shots on target! A must have.
Steven Bergwijn | M | AJX | 7.0M | In 3% of teams
Steven found a new life with Ajax. And he is absolutely on fire!
So far, 7 goals in 6 domestic games. Next up is Rangers, coming on the back of a 4–0 defeat against Celtic. It’s no exaggeration when I say that he is probably the best differential pick at your disposal in the two early Wednesday kick-offs.
Ferrán Jutglà | A | BRU | 5.5M | In 2% of teams
Club Brugge prepare themselves to face a leaky Leverkusen squad. In fact the Germans are averaging slightly more than 2 goals conceded per game. Correlate that with Brugge averaging 2.25 goals scored per game, and there you have it: the perfect excuse to punt on this young Spanish talent.
But that’s not all. The target man has 5 goals and 3 assists in seven games. If this one works out, send regards to my fellow scout Bruno for spotting this one!
