Gameweek 5 in #ChampionsFantasy, and I find myself perched at 248 points, a mere shadow at #1622 in the Overall standings. Admittedly, the road has been rocky so far.

Some whisper about variance; I blame the nuances of the new format.

Captaincy has been my Achilles’ heel, with three consecutive blanks. The last two, courtesy of the formidable Ukrainians (a lesson learned, won’t be targeting them again!). Yet, a closer look reveals a missed opportunity in Kane’s potential hauls on the second day of both gameweeks. Chances lost cannot be retaken!

But dwelling on the past yields no rewards. It’s time to pick up the scratches and move forward. Gameweek 5 brings the inevitability of rotation, a prospect that, in my world, spells interesting opportunities.

With no wildcard to play, transfers demand strategic precision, considering the likely outcomes and the intricate wiring of groups and teams.

So, let’s cut to the chase. Three potential game-changers for your consideration.

Ciro Immobile | LAZ | F | 7.5M | In 1% of teams

Lazio’s target man, priced at 7.5M, is arguably the best third striker for the run-in. Lazio has netted thrice in the last five matches, all courtesy of the Italian poacher. A home clash against Celtic seems tailor-made for a standout performance. Immobile’s role becomes paramount in Gameweek 5 and potentially in the group winner decider against Atlético Madrid in Gameweek 6.

Calvin Stengs | FEY | M | 6.0M | In 5% of teams

In the same group, the newest Dutch sensation, Stengs, with a 6.0M, demands attention. At home, Calvin and Feyenoord transform into a different beast. With one goal, one assist, 10 key passes, and 12 duels won, Stengs has been incredible. Post Atlético, a visit to Celtic away could further add to his fantasy appeal.

Malick Thiaw | MIL | D | 4.5M | In 1% of teams

Defenders, the enigma of this game, so might as well go small-ball here. Budget-wise, Thiaw at 4.5M emerges as a sensible choice. With two cleanies and an average of 8 clearances at home, he embodies defensive reliability. Dortmund’s modest three-goal tally in four games and Newcastle’s struggles in finding the net make Thiaw a potential key figure for Milan’s progression.

These are pragmatic choices. No poetic embellishments, just the facts. And some of the times, that is just what you need. Best of luck in Gameweek 5!
