Ah, the joy and wonder of the first gameweek of the Champions League is upon us. This is a moment of infinite possibilities (within a budget), where every choice is plausible and success is 13 rounds away.

The big-names need no presentation, and as always, the difference is made in the middle of the pack, price wise, and the bargains that one could find.

And that’s what I’m here for, to nitpick the field and deliver you the best options that will allow for the heavy-hitters.

Let’s get it on!

Aaronson | Salzburg | M | 6.0M | In 0% of teams

It’s no surprise to see an American being the European talisman for the Austrians! His two goals and one assist, meant a 75% Goal Involvement in the two matches against Brøndby. A nice punt for today’s early kickoff!

Morato | Benfica | D | 4.0M | In 17% of teams

Probably the best cheap defender in town! And the best way to fit at least 3 heavy-hitters in your squad. A regular in five of the last six matches, and Benfica only conceded one goal with him in the team. A trip to Kiev is ideal to keep that trend up and running.

Traoré | Sheriff | M | 5.5M | In 0% of teams

But not the one who plays for Shakhtar Donetsk! Adama is playing as an inside forward for the newbies from Moldavia and scored 4 goals in the 8 matches that completed the journey until the UCL group stage. Another cheap punt to add to your roster!

Džeko | Internazionale | F | 7.5M | In 2% of teams

At 35 years old, he remains one of the best stand-out poachers in Europe. With his price point, you definitely can’t get a “22 UCL goals forward” that easily. Granted that Real Madrid are no pushovers, but Edin’s class is permanent. A good solution if you haven’t already 3 heavyweights up front.
