The American crypto exchange Coinbase attracted former vice president of product at Google to be its chief product officer.

Surojit Chatterjee has been with Google for 11 years. There he dealt with issues of payments, advertising technologies and commercial activities. His last project was Google Shopping, whose users today are residents of more than 90 countries.

At Coinbase, Chatterjee will replace Jeremy Henrickson, who left the company in December 2018. All this time, the position of chief product officer was vacant. Now Chatterjee will focus on “making the cryptoeconomy accessible to millions more people through Coinbase’s suite of products,” CEO Brian Armstrong said in a statement.

Chatterjee got excited about the idea of separating money from the state when he was still living in India, where the national currency was devalued several times, and the authorities forbade regulated financial institutions to work with cryptocurrency business.

“I don’t think crypto is the end-all be-all of our problems, but it’s a big piece of the puzzle,” Chatterjee said. “[Coinbase] will revolutionize global financial services in the same way that Google revolutionized the internet.”
