Project Rundown interview with Elliot Hall, Founder & Group CEO of Zapaygo

Hey Elliot! We are happy to connect today and learn more about Zapaygo project! Can you tell us more about the founding of the project and what the problem is that you were addressing?

Hi, thank you so much for your time, it’s really appreciated, especially as I get to talk about my favourite subject, Zapaygo.

The idea for Zapaygo originally came from the frustration of standing in queues waiting to order food or drink and waiting endlessly for busy waiters to return with the bill.

Imagine before COVID 19, when all the stadiums were still open, and you went to watch a match or live show. You only get a short window during half time to queue, order your food, pay, wait for it to be prepared, collect it and get back to your seat. It was common place that you missed the start of the second half.

Now imagine you have Zapaygo, the solution that without even needing to leave your seat, lets you order, pay and receive a notification when your food is ready to be collected.

The whole process means even if you want to grab a snack during the match, you know there’s no messing around when you go to collect it.

Although we had focused the platform around stadiums and large conference centres, the close of them during lockdown, meant we needed to innovate. That’s why Zapaygo can now also be found in bars, restaurants, hotels and we even support non-food merchants, such as hair salons and car valet services.

Not only has this been a bonus for the customers, but the merchants have found an increase in order value, their staff have more time to engage with customers and the whole ordering, payment to delivery has become far more efficient.

Awesome. Now could you please give us a rundown of the most important things about Zapaygo?

Of course, Zapaygo has been in the making for over five years now. During that time, we’ve been able to refine the solution and establish strong relationships with the larger venues in anticipation for their relaunch later this year.

Now that COVID 19 has happened, we’ve actually found that not only does Zapaygo improve service efficiency and increase revenues, but now it helps merchants keep their customers safe during this pandemic.

No one could have prepared for COVID 19, but it turns out we had!

With Zapaygo we have reduced the need for queueing in busy areas, waiters taking orders, the touching of card machines and the exchange of cash.

Customers can now find a seat, download the Zapaygo app, register, place their order and the food and drinks will be brought to them. It also means customers no longer need to go and stand by a bar waiting to make orders. Instead they open the app, place the order and a staff member will bring it to them.

One of our customers said…

“We put the Zapaygo app to use from the day we opened our doors after lock down and it has really helped us manage our customer flow. The app is easy to use from a customer perspective and the staff dashboard for managing incoming orders is very streamline.”

“Our customers have found it much easier than coming to the bar — especially as table service is preferred now — and it has taken pressure off of the staff, they are no longer constantly running around taking orders.”

“We would recommend the Zapaygo app to anyone else in hospitality who wants to implement an app system to assist their trade.”

So going forth into 2020 and beyond, how will your project make an impact in the crypto space, or on the world?

Zapaygo and RewardZ bring blockchain to the everyday person. Without the need for complicated blockchain sign up procedures, understanding what a private key is, or researching exchanges, Zapaygo customers will be earning crytpo tokens whilst they go about their daily lives.

Through our loyalty scheme, users will earn ZAPs every time they make a purchase in one of our participating venues. These ZAPs can then be exchanged on the RewardZ market place. As the platform expands, we intend to offer rewards from meal discounts, high street deals, car hire, free cinema tickets and even air miles.

As the platform roles out across the globe, the ZAPs will allow users to gain rewards internationally.

Now, could you tell us about Zapaygo’s accomplishments so far, please tell us what you are most proud of.

Zapaygo was started back in 2015 and it’s been a hard slog to get it to where we are today. We had some relationships with partners fall apart and some let downs with development teams. But we stayed strong and we have some amazing launch partners now and EPOS partners who get us into some of the UK’s largest conference centres and over 60% of the Premiership Football stadiums.

Now, give us a quick rundown of the future of Zapaygo. For example, what new things are you seeking to bring to life and what will it mean for the overall project?

We continue to improve the platform daily and increase user engagement. The latest addition we added was for guests to order room service straight to their room in hotels. This alone has opened our reach of customers massively.

For user engagement, we are planning to include games that allow people to play between each other to see who pays the bill and win prizes via order numbers. To build up the value of the app to users we also intend on allowing messaging between users and the ability to arrange a night out with friends, splitting the bill at the end of the evening.

We are partnering with other blockchain solutions to deliver our RewardZ to a larger audience. This will include solutions similar to Netflix, Spotify, Amazon Audible, sustainability projects and those helping preserve cultural heritage.

Tell us about your team. Who’re the people behind the screens?

We have an experienced and well-qualified team who have experience launching apps and managing global rollouts. The team includes people who were previously, CFO of MasterCard, Head of Digital and Innovation at Matthew Clark, and our Head of Technology was an Intel Innovation Director and CTO for SAS Europe.

Which partnerships have you engaged so far, and which ones are the most impactful?

We have many partnerships to help us rollout across stadiums, conference centres and theatres, but due to COVID, we’ve been unable to utilise these yet. Our main international partners to help our global rollout include Tata ”TCS” and ASM Global.

Now on a more technical side of things, what are the token metrics for ZHT, and how do these lead to a stable and balanced system?

I attended various meetings with PWC who helped us come up with the token economics. The intentions are to regulate the release of the tokens and create demand for them and try to maintain the value by initially selling the tokens via our own website, and then as the app gains mass adoption in venues and the number of rewards partners grow, we will look to list on token crypto exchanges.
