The Number of Active Dapp Users in 2019 Has Doubled
The total transaction volume of decentralized applications (Dapps) with native tokens of the nine leading blockchains reached $10 billion in 2019, according to a new report from the Dapp.com portal.
The value increased by 58.5% compared to the previous year. The calculations did not take into account transactions of non-native tokens, for example, ERC20 tokens in the Ethereum blockchain.
In total, nine of these blockchains recorded over 3.26 billion transactions. Only one EIDOS project, with the airdrop of which was associated with the congestion of the EOS network at the end of last year, had 2,386,915,405 transactions. Excluding EIDOS, the remaining 2,216 active Dapps processed 872 million transactions.
The number of Dapp users has doubled compared to 2018 (from 1.48 million to 3.11 million), according to Dapp.com. Of these, 2.77 million users interacted with Dapps for the first time. As it becomes clear from this data, the problem of user retention is still relevant to the Dapp space. Only 348,000 old users remained active in 2019, which corresponds to 11% of the entire active user base.
The greatest growth was experienced by financial applications, for example, related to crypto-lending. The number of users of such applications increased by 610%, the volume of transactions — by 251%. The number of users in gambling applications has also increased — by 372%. Their transaction volume has doubled.
1,445 new decentralized apps were launched on the six largest smart contract platforms. The leaders are Ethereum (690) and TRON (411). In addition, in 2019, the number of users in the decentralized applications of these blockchains began to significantly exceed the EOS values.
At the same time, EOS showed the highest level of activity retention among all platforms — 479 or 493 decentralized applications remained active. Closing the ranking of Ethereum and NEO with 62% and 62.5%, respectively.
During the first three quarters, the number of active users, transactions and their volumes remained relatively constant, but the situation changed significantly in the fourth quarter when EIDOS was launched. Against this background, the number of transactions has grown more than 4 times.
By the end of 2019, only 199 out of 1,468 decentralized apps in 2018 were active. In 2018, the survival rate of decentralized applications was higher and amounted to 38.2%.
Speaking about individual platforms, it should be noted that about half of Ethereum Dapps users were interested in distributed finance (DeFi). At the same time, 70% of the volume of ETH cryptocurrency transactions accounted for decentralized exchanges and financial services. The same Ethereum remains the main choice of game developers. In 2019, the Ethereum blockchain received over 200,000 gamers, which is 2 times the total value of EOS and TRON.
TRON has officially become the second-largest ecosystem of Dapps in terms of number of applications and active users. In his case, the applications in the field of gambling and high-risk investments turned out to be the most popular — over 75% of active users fell into these two categories.
At the same time, the contribution of EOS to the total transaction volume of Dapps amounted to almost $5 billion, which exceeds the values of Ethereum and EOS and puts this blockchain in the first place in this category.
