Twitter Has Been Hacked. Bitcoin Scam Goes Big
By CoinJoy on The Capital

On July 15, 2020, unknown attackers hacked official Twitter accounts of celebrities and many famous people. Hackers sent tweets on their behalf about a fake distribution of 5,000 BTC from an unknown site CryptoForHealth. Users were asked to transfer $1000 to a Bitcoin wallet to receive $2000 in return.
Among the victims were the Twitter pages of Bitcoin

Charlie Lee (Litecoin), Bitfinex exchange

Gemini exchange

Jeff Bezos (Amazon.com), Changpeng Zhao (Binance), Justin Sun (Tron)

Ripple (XRP), Cash App, Uber, Apple, Mike Bloomberg (one of the richest people in the world), Bill Gates (Microsoft)

Elon Musk

Kanye West, Kim Kardashian West, and even former US President Barack Obama. Most of the tweets have now been deleted.
The attack was on social network employees and internal work tools. Twitter started an investigation and limited user options pending clarification:
We are aware of a security incident impacting accounts on Twitter. We are investigating and taking steps to fix it. We will update everyone shortly.

About 12.86 BTC was sent to the attackers’ address. Most likely, they sent some of them themselves to create the appearance of human participation. Soon the exchanges began to block transfers to the cybercriminals, but nevertheless, for all the time the cybercriminals received at least $100,000.
Twitter shares have already been predicted to fall sharply.
