The Ohio Athletic Conference provides some of the best women’s basketball talent in the region.

John Carroll University women’s basketball team was treated to the conference’s best in the back-to-back action.

The Blue and Gold suffered a loss against the conference’s second ranked team, Baldwin Wallace University, 71–63.

Senior guard Katlyn Spahar led the team with 18 points while junior guard Shmoo Pryor was second on the team with 13 points and two assists in 33 minutes of work. As a team, John Carroll shot 31.3 percent from the field.

The schedule would not get any easier for the Blue and Gold.

Slated next for the Blue Streaks was the conference leader and undefeated Ohio Northern University Polar Bears.

John Carroll looked to rebound off of the conference leader, but an upset was not in the cards. The Blue Streaks dropped the conference clash 89–59 in the Saturday, Feb. 11 meeting.

Ohio Northern remains undefeated on the season with a 23–0 record. John Carroll stands with a 6–17 record overall.

The scoring duo of Spahar and Pryor were the leaders for the Blue Streaks again. Spahar led all scorers with 24 points, which accompanied nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Pryor added 14 points to go along with two rebounds, two assists and a game leading six steals.

As a team, John Carroll shot 33.3 percent from the field and nearly shot 80 percent form the free throw line.

John Carroll would come out of the gates flat, being outscored 21–12 in the first quarter against Ohio Northern.

Second quarter play was more of the same from the conference leaders. The hosting Polar Bears outscored the visiting Blue Streaks, 26–15, in the second frame to take a commanding lead at the half.

Heading into the break, John Carroll trailed 47- 27.

The third quarter was the most successful for the hosts after they scored a game high 29 points in the quarter. The rest was just a formality for the hosts, going on to beat the Blue Streaks 89–59 by the final buzzer.

Even in defeat, the Blue and Gold had their bright spots against the OAC powerhouse, Ohio Northern. Besides Spahar and Pryor leading the scoring front for the Blue Streaks, sophomore guard, Anne Principe, shot the ball extremely well going 3–5 from behind the arc which allowed her to score a blazing nine points in only 10 minutes of action from the bench.

The Blue and Gold will now look to bounce back from back-to-back losses in the regular season home finale for the Blue and Gold.

Spahar will be recognized before the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center crowd as the lone senior listed on the roster ahead of the Wednesday, Feb. 15 conference clash with Heidelberg University.

John Carroll will close out the 2016–17 regular season with a road battle against conference opponent Capital University on Saturday, Feb. 18.
