We took a look at how we can help improve our team’s performance as we all weather the ongoing pandemic. As social beings, we need to help foster the relationships between our teammates. With the right mindset and leadership, we can aim to come out of the Covid-19 crisis stronger together.

What does it mean to thrive?

Thriving is substantially different from merely existing. It means we are engaged in our lives and have a sense of meaning and purpose. By thriving, we are in a position to grow, mature, and become a better version of ourselves.

N. Karl Haden wrote an article on the virtue of leadership, where he touched on what it means to thrive. Citing the work of Daniel Pink, he highlights the three pieces of thriving: the freedom to create, the room to improve, and a sense of purpose.

If our teams are thriving, they can handle conflict better, encourage one another, experiment, and make better decisions together.

During social distancing

For those of fortunate enough to continue working through the pandemic, let’s consider what we can do to help our teams thrive.

One way we can help create the right environment is by reminding our teams why their work is vital. Doing so creates a sense of purpose, which can help build internal motivation and togetherness. We can also solicit their ideas for the ways we can improve how we approach our work with one another, and make lasting changes — even after things settle down.

I hope you are safe and well. Let’s get through this together.
