From the days of the old, Homecoming has been a celebration that both current and former students look forward to attending, enjoying, and reminiscing about each year. Last week, students, staff, and Alumni of LHS engaged in the 2021 edition of this tradition with Spirit Week activities, the football game, and the annual Homecoming Dance in the school atrium.

Last Monday, Spirit Week kicked off with a bang, starting with everyone’s favorite: pajama day! Many students were very excited for this day, including Sophomore Braylon Beaver, who exclaimed, ”Imma’ come up with a deer onesie, like reindeer if you know what I’m saying.”

The next day was Jersey Day. This was followed by Hat Day, which is always a blast because this day allows students to engage in things they wouldn’t be able to normally (like wearing hats without being told to take them off).

A day of wonderful fashionistas arrived on Thursday. This day was filled with creativity and fashion trends. Dress your best day was also picture day for LHS.

A few students who were excited for spirit week said, “Spirit week means being a Cedar,” and that “Cedar Pride” inspired them.

Friday, October 1st, presented the football game at the Alumni Stadium, where the Cedars gave it their all against Ephrata. Coach Isenberg had this to say about the meaning of the game: “the school spirit, having the community involved, bringing the alumni back…it’s a good time.”

Aiden Hernandez, a football player, said this about the game: “We finally learned how to have fun in a game more as a team than for ourselves.”

At halftime, the homecoming King and Queen were crowned. Luke Collins was announced as the King, along with Chanel Rodriguez as the Queen.

The homecoming dance was the following day from 7pm-10pm in the atrium. To attend homecoming you needed to pay for a $10 ticket which was sold after school in the atrium on the 27th of September. Guests were also allowed to join with permission from an LHS principal. This year’s theme was Casino Night. When you first walked through the doors, there was a balloon arch of the colors black, red, and white. Next to the balloon arch was a staff member who would let the students in once they gave them their tickets. There was also a backdrop of a casino board where people could take photos by the locker stairwell. The DJ was by the cafeteria playing recommended songs by the students themselves, and at one point even played WAP by Cardi B! During a song some students formed a long conga line which lasted a few minutes until another conga line was created, and they crashed together causing most of the people in it to stop walking.

Sophomore Maggie Bender, who attended the dance stated, “I was happy and the dance was lots of fun even with the COVID restrictions. I am glad we were able to hold a dance this year.”

As always, LHS’s Homecoming events made magical memories that will help shape the relationships of students and provided an opportunity for them to get to know each other so much better than they could have imagined.
