It’s exciting news that we’re starting the last marking period of the 2022–2023 school year! Summer vacation is coming and it’s coming fast, even though the recent weather is making it feel like summer already…

To many’s dismay, the end of the school year means final exams and meeting many deadlines. Exams and deadlines are stressful and not fun. It’s hard to cope and deal with that stress and worry. There’s lots of hassling to get this and that done, with little forms of actually being able to manage the stress and keeping your sanity.

Music is most likely a part of your life in some way. Whether you listen to it a lot, listen to it a little, or generally hear it all around you. It’s undeniably a part of daily life. Why is this relevant you may ask? There’s been studies in which the effect of music was researched. Primary sources discussed how music has been used as a part of stress recovery, how it affects certain parts of the brain, or how particular aspects of music can influence a person.

With this being said, music evokes emotion. Referring back to the studies previously, main emotions that were found when listening to music were happy, calm, motivated, etc.

Although there’s been more information suggesting that certain instrumental music is the main benefit for focus, don’t let that stop you from taking joy in your own music preference.

White noise, brown noise, pink noise, binaural beats, anything of that sort all have scientific research supporting the fact that they improve focus, decrease anxiety, help with sleep, and many other factors of stressful everyday life.

This being said, if you’re struggling with the stress of getting through your final marking period, listen to music!
