The Esports arena opened on March 4th, 2020. A whopping $35,000 was funded to the arena by PASmart, which was in collaboration with Emerald Foundation. LHS’s arena is by far one of the best and the most expensive in PA. It was a big opening for the community, and even the mayor of Lebanon came in the arena to celebrate!

What to know about the Esports team

The team is currently coached by Mr. Wasakoski and Mr. Figueroa, who are also teachers in the district. Sessions are hosted in room L226, every Wednesday. Tournaments are scheduled on Thursdays. Arena and competitive sessions start at 3:15pm, ending in 4:15pm. Requirements? You have to be academically eligible to join tournaments, and that’s it!

Don’t like playing on PC? You can always hook up an Xbox controller to computers. At the moment, there are many games you can play, with the most popular being Rocket League. If you like playing competitive games, you will love the experience gifted by the Esports team! The environment is just right for gaming; for instance, they have high quality gaming chairs, keyboards and monitors.

In competition, there will always be a reward for the winners. Winning tournaments and placing in high places could earn you thousands of dollars of scholarships. That is a big deal! Even with the pressure of competing, team members think that there is a lot of fun involved in being part of the team. Freshman Murphy Rosero tells us, “You play games while talking to your friends!”

LHS’s Esports arena has many goals that seem to be working well. The arena allows students to be more involved with after school activities, to improve student satisfaction and skills, and to bring social gaming to its full potential. Open arenas on Wednesdays allow students, including those not on the team, to socialize and enjoy time with their peers. This has positive benefits for those who may feel left out.

Interested in joining the team? Message Mr. Figueroa or Mr. Wasakoski on Schoology!
