The Cedar Times Student of the Week is a great way to honor our best students, athletes, and hardest workers! These awesome students are nominated by teachers, and the winner each week will get a short article written about them in the Student of the Week Blog. If you are a teacher reading this, please nominate an awesome kid!

Week 10: Olivia Uffner

Week 9: Christopher Carrera

Christopher Carrera

Christopher Carrera is a role model and an excellent writer who brings leadership to LHS. Mrs. Johnson said that Christopher deserves Student of the Week because “he entered a writing contest and finished his book”. He wrote a whole book which he considers his biggest accomplishment.

Not only is Christopher an excellent writer, but he is also kind to everyone he is around. He has been so successful at LHS because he focuses on his own goals and doesn’t worry about what others think. He also has supportive teachers around him, that cheer him on.

Christopher said that Mrs. Johnson inspires him because she is encouraging and she has accomplished a lot in her life.

In the future, Christopher wants to go to a trade school and hopefully open up a car manufacturing business.

Week 8: Nathania Mentor

Nathania Mentor

Nathania Mentor is a cheery LHS freshman who is brings spirit to LHS. Mrs. Newswanger said that “Nana is bright and cheerful in the mornings and greets her teachers and peers every day”. Nana is a cheerleader for LHS and she is full of Cedar Pride.

Not only is Nana a cheerleader, but she is also the boys baseball manager. She is very proud of her accomplishments in school and sports, and she hopes to continue getting good grades.

Nana is inspired by her biology teacher Mr. Caro. She said that he makes every class fun and he cares about every student. She thinks that she is successful at LHS because she asks teachers question when she doesn’t understand things, and she uses seminar time productively.

In the future, Nana wants to go to college and become a pediatrician.

Week 7: Milianys Ortega Torres

Milianys Ortega Torres

Milianys Ortega Torres is an LHS freshman with an infectious smile who cares for her peers and teachers. Mrs. Newswanger described Mili as a “phenomenal student who strives to do her best on a daily basis”. Mili is a die-hard Cedars fan and she attends all the freshman tailgate events and activities!

Mili does volleyball and track at LHS. She is very proud of her accomplishments in track and she is very excited for this season. She wants to continue to improve her time in the 100m dash.

Mili is inspired by her history teacher, Mr. Caro. She said that he encourages his students to never give up. She thinks that she is successful at LHS because she surrounds herself with positive people.

In the future, Mili wants to go to college for nursing.

Week 6: Madison Bishop

Week 5: Caleb Hershey

Caleb Hershey is an LHS senior with great running and teaching talent. Mr. Hibshman described him as a reliable, hardworking, and positive student. Caleb has a 4.5 GPA which puts him in the running for valedictorian.

Caleb runs cross country, track, and indoor track, and volunteers in the district elementary schools. He is also a member of the National Honors Society. His favorite activity at LHS is running on the cross country team. He got 3rd place at the Lebanon Lancaster League cross country meet, and he qualified for the district and state meet. He is looking forward to a successful track season and is hoping to break the school record in the two mile.

Mr. Hibshman said that Caleb has a “real talent when working with kids”. Caleb goes into Harding Elementary School two days a week to work with young students.

In the future, Caleb plans to go to Temple University to run track and field and graduate with his teaching degree. He hopes to be a history teacher when he graduates college.

Week 4: Melviariliz Pagan Ojeda

Melviariliz Pagan Ojeda

Melviariliz Pagan Ojeda was nominated for the Student of the Week by Mrs. Graban. She described Melviariliz as positive, helpful, and friendly. Mrs. Graban said she is always willing to help out other students.

Melviariliz loves to play softball and volleyball at LHS. She also loves to read horror, romance, and drama books. Melviariliz wishes that she told her freshman self to be more confident. When she was in her freshman year, she felt insecure and scared but when she got to know other students and teachers, she grew to love LHS.

In the future, Melviariliz plans to go to college to study psychology. She thinks that one of her best talents is listening to others and trying to give them good advice so psychology would be a great fit for her.

Week 3: Eve Fenstermaker

Junior Eve Fenstermaker

Eve Fenstermaker was nominated by Mrs. Graban for the third Cedar Times Student of the Week! Mrs. Graban said that Eve works well with others and always helps out her classmates. She also described Eve as a positive person with a great attitude.

A few activities Eve is involved in at LHS are Chamber Singers, Symphonic Band, Chamber Orchestra, Once on This Island Stage Manager, Varsity Field Hockey, and Varsity Softball. When we asked Eve what her favorite activity at LHS was, she said, “Field Hockey! I started in elementary school and I’ve been in love with it ever since”. Eve was able to earn her varsity jacket in her junior year due to her accomplishments in field hockey and softball.

We asked Eve to give some of the LHS underclassmen some life advice. She said, “Breaks are okay. I wish I would’ve taken breaks instead of piling everything on myself. Breaks help in the long run.”

In the future, Eve plans to go to college on a pre-veterinary track and hopefully end up working at a veterinary practice clinic.

Week 2: Olivia Bartal

Week 1: Catalina Cruz

Senior Catalina Cruz

Catalina Cruz was nominated by Mrs. Uzar for the very first Cedar Times Student of the Week! Mrs. Uzar described Cat as an honest, responsible, kind, and welcoming girl who is a great leader on the tennis court and in school.

A few activities that Cat is involved in at LHS are National Honors Society, Show Choir, the musical, Class Officers and Varsity Tennis. When we asked Cat what her favorite activity was, she said, “Hard to say. There are different charms that every club has, but my personal favorite would probably be the musical. It’s such an exciting and fulfilling experience and you get to meet and work with so many wonderful people throughout the process.” Cat has a lead role in the musical “Once On This Island” and she is super excited to show off her skills.

In the future, Cat plans to attend a four year college to study psychology. She would like to go into the counseling field.
