Here in Mass Communications, the students write articles and make videos to upload to the public. Our Driving Question is: How can we, as cinematographers and journalists promote positive change in Lebanon by bringing awareness to issues affecting our school and community? The students brainstorm and create stories with consideration to our driving question.

Treyvon Garcia says, “the best part about Mass Communications is how much creative control there is but I constantly struggled with myself to publish appropriate content.” Treyvon has participated in multiple articles and videos, but the most memorable would be the Winter Writing Contest article and the “Would You Rather Be Hot and Poor or Rich and Ugly” video. The “Winter Writing Contest” is an article where Treyvon gave a chance to student writers to write a book of their choice. The “Would You Rather Be Hot and Poor or Rich and Ugly” video is a video (Daily Debate 11/18/21 on WLHS TV) where Treyvon asks 8 students which they’d prefer. Treyvon says, “my favorite part was how I got to eat during the video.” Treyvon says his future plans are to indulge in wearing specific clothing to school.

Kaylany Ramos says the best thing about Mass Communications is “how comfortable and welcomed the students can make you feel.” Kaylany has published 4 articles on Medium and helped with some school videos as well. Kaylany’s first article published was on October 7th, 2021. She wrote “5 Self-Help Tips for Freshman” because “when [she] was a Freshman I would’ve liked to have some idea of how to prepare myself for my first year of High School”. She followed that up with articles celebrating Hispanic Heritage, ranking Christmas movies (to bring awareness to some wonderful winter movies such as Home Alone and Elf), and even honoring Betty White’s 100th Birthday. Kaylany says her future plans are “ Entering the medical field to start off how I would determine if I would want to go to school to study for criminology and psychology.”

Adan Martinez says the best thing about Mass Communications is “how you can communicate with the community and spread awareness to certain aspects of the school.” Adan has participated in many videos and has been the best hype man for the student writers. Adan says his future plans are “College, experience new things, and make music.”

Dimaris Rivera Colon says the best thing about Mass Communications is how “you are able to interact with the community regardless of anything, as well that you are able to express your feelings throughout social media in an exceptional way.” Dimaris was the first student in our class to publish Spanish content. She says, “Since I’ve been a part of Mass Communications, I’ve been very passionate about expanding our content to reach our Spanish speaking population.” Dimaris has made and participated in multiple videos and has made her own Podcast. She started the podcast because she wanted to interact with people in different ways. Damaris’ “Are you smarter than a fifth-grader” spoofs are created to have fun and see what random answers the people come up with. Dimaris says the video “Hispanic Heritage month” was a great way to interact with people culturally and make sure they felt welcomed. She said, “Since I am Puerto Rican, I would have loved to see something like this [be available].” Dimaris says her future plans are “To get a college degree in Law to become a Lawyer”

A very special victory for the class was how we won second place in the Million Dream Challenge. This means that we were awarded $2500 for books for the school. Class members have also recently entered a video in the “It Can Wait” contest sponsored by the PA News Media Association about texting while driving.
