National Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15th and runs through October 15th. It is a month of celebrating and acknowledging the backgrounds, accomplishments, and cultures of the Latino Americans. Many American ancestors brought these achievements to share from Spain, Mexico, the carribean, and central and South America.

All these different parts of the Latin world have their own special dishes that have history behind them and bring joy to the table of those who are eating these special dinners with the family. In order to kick off this Hispanic Heritage Month the right way, we at the Cedar Times have listed some of the most popular and enjoyable dishes around these 5 international countries.

ARROZ CON GANDULES >> (Puerto Rico)

This dish is a classic for the puertorriqueños who grew up with this traditional rice. This is a beatiful combination of rice, pigeon peas, and pork, cooked in the same pot with the Puerto-Rican style sofrito. The signature dish is very popular throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.

PAELLA >> (Spain)

Paella is the signature dish of Spain which originated from the city of Valencia. This popular spanish rice dish includes meat, vegetables, seafood, and Saffron is one of the main typical ingredients. This is cooked on a pan over an open fire and it’s also a combination of Roman and Arabian cuisine.

PABELLON CRIOLLO >> (VENEZUELA)

The national dish of Venezuela consists of juicy pulled beef , black beans, white rice, and sweet fried plantains with a slice of avocado added on the side. You can combine this dish with many side additions to the plate like adding a fried egg or tajadas. This dish is a traditional Venezuelan plate to the culture and is something to definitely try out when you visit the country.
