Last week, LHS held a club and sports day to promote the many activities that students can get involved in at the school. The idea was created by the student council because they thought it would be a great way for students to connect with their peers. Some of the sports and clubs involved were the Reading Olympics, Quiz Bowl, Cedars Leaders, Girls and Boys Basketball, Cheerleading, Track, and Volleyball (just to name a few).

There are many benefits to joining clubs and participating in sports. Students are able to feel welcomed into the school community through a tight group of people with the same interests as them. Extracurriculars help improve attendance, grades, and connections with peers. Mrs. Rhinier, the Cedar Leader advisor said “Clubs and sports keep students connected to school, helps them meet positive friends, and create bonds with teachers.”

It was very cool to see some LHS students helping out at this event. Owen Arnold Paine is an 11th grade student who helped out with the track and cross country table. He said, “Lots of students signed up, but we’re uncertain if they would actually participate when spring came. Nonetheless, the more people the better.” He seemed very pleased with the amount of students who signed up though not all were fully committed.

Another student who is involved in both clubs and sports is Rylie Dangerfield who is in 10th grade. She is a cheerleader and part of the Reading Olympics club. She said, “Since I was a freshman last year during COVID-19, I wasn’t exposed to all of the things LHS offered. Doing all of these fun clubs and sports helped me make friends.”

If you missed out on Thursday or Friday don’t worry! Here’s a list of clubs/teams and advisors to reach out to. We would love to have you sign up!
