Christmas is quickly approaching! Let’s take some time to learn about the ugly sweater’s history throughout the years.

It first started in the 1950s, where Christmas-themed sweaters appeared during the growth of commercializing. The ugly sweater were known as “Jingle Bell Sweaters”. At the time, they weren’t as popular as they are now.

In the 1980s ugly sweaters became a big hit. This was the result from pop culture and comedies, making the sweater hold happiness and joy. Unfortunately, the fashion popularity didn’t last long, only until around the 1990s.

When the early 2000s rolled around, the city of Vancouver created the start of a “Christmas Sweaters” party. By 2007, a fashion designer, Stella McCartney, had shown a sweater that looked like a polar bear-themed alpine. The internet helped give traction to the ugly sweaters, boosting its fashion choice amongst the young people.
