Everyone is familiar with Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, and Sugar Cookies, but not many know their history. If you keep reading this article, which you should, you’ll be a smart cookie!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chocolate chip cookies are the most popular cookie in America, which is not surprising! These delicious cookies were invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield and Sue Brides, two American chefs in Whitman, Massachusetts in 1938. The creation of chocolate chip cookies is often mistaken. It was believed that Ruth put chocolate chunks into the cookie dough and expected them to melt, resulting in chocolate cookies. This statement is false. In actuality, Ruth created these cookies on purpose!

Not only is this cookie the most popular cookie in America, but also the most iconic dessert in America. Even the cookie dough itself is good! It should be noted that it shouldn’t be eaten if it includes raw flour or raw eggs. Recipes for chocolate chip cookie dough have actually been created without using any raw ingredients that could cause any sickness to the consumer. Isn’t that fantastic?

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Oatmeal raisin cookies would taste great if they didn’t have raisins, right? OK, but seriously, these cookies are considered a healthy snack, so that’s a plus! Including oats in your diet is a great way to get nutrients, such as iron and protein. The best bodybuilders drink oatmeal raisin cookie protein shakes, and that’s totally a fact! (Please note this is not an actual fact)

These cookies are very similar to traditional Scottish oatcakes from the Middle Ages. The first recorded recipe for oatmeal raisin cookies was created by Fannie Merritt Farmer in 1896. She basically decided to take a delicious oatmeal cookie and ruin it— I mean add raisins to it! They are more crispy and modern than the Scottish oatcakes. Oatmeal raisin cookies became famous in the United States in the early 1900s. Nowadays, they are popular for being healthy.

Sugar Cookies

Sugar cookies have a simple but tasty flavor and have been made for centuries. It is thought that they originated in the mid 18th century. Protestant German settlers in Nazareth, Pennsylvania created the first sugar cookie. It originally known as the “Nazareth Cookie”. Published recipes for this cookie were beginning to appear in the 1800s.

Sugar cookies are popular in North America. They consist of a simple recipe of sugar, flour, butter, eggs, vanilla, and baking soda. They are commonly made during holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, or Hanukkah. To put it simply, the sugar cookie is a classic sweet that has been popular for generations.
