Progress
Have you ever struggled to pick a meal for dinner?
Or maybe you couldn’t find an outfit for the day?
Maybe a bigger decision has arisen regarding your job?
Over the past week, I have been working on my ability to make these daily and lifestyle decisions. I’d like to reflect on how this has been going.
Its hard.
I think our personality has a lot to do with how we make decisions. Some people overthink everything, while others are spontaneous. However, I believe that college is a great place to work on many aspects of yourself, including decision making. By the time I graduate, I hope to be able to effectively make decisions. By making a time frame for my progress, it sets me up for success and a time frame to focus on.
I also hope to learn from my peers over the next three years. If I observe others making decisions on their majors and classes, I will be able to pick up skills that they are using to succeed. In fact, college has improved my decision-making abilities already. By having to select a major and college that suits me has forced me to evaluate my standards and ambitions for the future. Knowing yourself is a large part of making wise decisions.
The biggest accomplishment thus far has been my independence on each decision. Instead of relying on others to pick the meal for the night or selecting which event to go to, I made my opinions heard and pursued them. Doing this has taught me the importance of self-confidence in making decisions.
Already, I feel a weight lifted from my shoulders. Being that I’m not stressing over as much and wasting time stuck in my mind, I feel the release. I hope to continue this trend. The biggest issue for me is my narrow mindset. I seldom expand my mind to find new solutions to problems. Through practice, practice, and more practice, I can learn to think outside of the box.
Good luck with your decisions and keep practicing.
