A big shoutout to Adrienne Beaumont for tagging me, who, in turn, got this from ALEX KIRKLAND! If you want to keep this going, feel free to copy and paste these questions into your new story (deleting my answers of course).

I’m wrapping up my second month as a new writer on Medium and still having fun sharing my travel tales. Thanks to all the talented writers who’ve welcomed me and my writing Lily Lum, ADEOLA SHEEHY-ADEKALE, Nancy Oglesby, Darren Weir, Mark Stuart Farrar.

  1. Who is the most interesting person you’ve met so far while traveling? The most interesting person I’ve met while travelling? That would be me! Every trip, I discover a new version of myself — one that’s braver, more curious, and always up for an adventure. Turns out, I’m pretty fascinating! All jokes aside, I recently wrote about a stranger I met in Rome who, unknowingly, had a profound impact on the direction of my life.
  2. How many foreign words have you learnt so far? It’s impossible to count that high! I can easily understand German (though speaking it might be a bit rusty), and French too. For every trip to Italy, Portugal, and Spain, I always make sure to learn the basic pleasantries. Who knew “hello,” “please,” and “thank you” could open so many doors?
  3. Which country has the best weather? Being from Canada, I enjoy all four seasons. But a must for me is a country that doesn’t rain a lot or stay cloudy most days. I like a little sun each day, so that rules out the UK and Vancouver!
  4. How many different currencies are you carrying? I have a change purse full of Euro coins for my next trip to Europe right beside my passport.
  5. Bungee jumping — yes or no? Hell no! There was a time when I would’ve jumped (pun totally intended) at the chance. But the older I get, the more I prefer my thrills without the risk of becoming a human yo-yo!
  6. What was the best place you stayed in? There are so many! I’m a sucker for boutique places that are architecturally designed and highly stylized. A few gems: the modern Villa Extramuros in Portugal, the charming Siena House in Tuscany, the ultra-lux Le Pavillon de la Reine in Paris, the delightful Maison Leontine in Provence, and my cozy Berlin apartment where I lived for three months. It’s like choosing a favourite star in the sky!
  7. Do you prefer hot, cold or temperate places? Temperate, all the way! I can’t stand the extremes — cold or hot. I never travel during the sweltering heat of summer and always escape Canadian winters for the warmer sunshine of Portugal and Spain. Come early spring, you’ll find me in France or Italy, and in the autumn, I’m happily exploring Germany. It’s all about that sweet, comfortable middle ground!
  8. Would you rather see a lot of places or get to know one really well? There are two types of travellers: country collectors and those who aren’t. I proudly belong to the “those who aren’t” camp — and it’s on purpose. I’ve even written a full article answering this very question! Dive deep, I say, because there’s nothing like truly getting to know a place and finding its soul.
  9. Window or aisle seat? Window! Every. Single. Time.
  10. Which religious or spiritual sites have you visited? I’ve been traveling exclusively to Europe for 35 years — care to guess how many religious or spiritual sites I’ve visited? Let’s just say my list is as long as the history of Europe itself!
