Enjoy your last summer before college
From someone who worked it all away
It was the summer of 2005, exactly 20 years ago. After graduation, I eagerly set out to make as much money as possible to prepare for college. Not truly understanding this might be my last free summer with minimal responsibility and time with my friends.
While I try not to have regrets in my life, I sometimes look back on the summer and wish I had had more fun. Thankfully, I’ve had the chance to make up for that fun over the years as a teacher with summers off. And double thankfully, I’ve maintained my good friends all these years and we’ve had incredible experiences traveling together.
I’m writing this reflection as a response to the June prompts from The Challenged publication. It’s been a while since I wrote on Medium, and I’d like to rebuild the habit of writing consistently.
offered this prompt for the first week of June: As students put the finishing touches on another school year, many focus on finding a summer job. Share your experiences of summer employment. Good, bad, or unique.
I’ve been working since I was a freshman in high school. My first job was ski lodge maintenance, which would have been a great gig if I actually liked to ski.
