I Don’t Embarrass Easily
But twice in the space of a few minutes was too much
12 Jason Edmunds: What is the most embarrassing thing that happened to you?
We thrashed the Governess, Anne Hegerty, on The Chase (Australia). I was the team leader (of course), and I told my team members, in no uncertain terms, our strategy in The Final Chase. I had never met them, so they were a little afraid of me. I can be a little “bossy”.
My strategy was that they had to press their buzzer and give an answer as quickly as they could. It didn’t matter if it was right or wrong. Speed was the key. We had to get through as many questions as we could. If they didn’t answer, I would pass or guess.
Okay? About halfway through the two minutes, we get a maths question. Anne gets it wrong, so we have a chance of a pushback.
I declare, “Maths is my specialty.”
The question: “What is 5 to the power of 0?” Anne answers it incorrectly. I blurt out “Zero”, knowing immediately it’s wrong. Anything to the power of zero is one. I have no idea why I said “Zero.”
To add insult to injury, Anne answers another question incorrectly. It’s about champagne bottle sizes.
“I know all of these,” I tell my teammates, and I do. They’re common questions at trivia.
