June 10: Many weddings occur in June and consequently wedding anniversaries but Mary Morton wants to know have you celebrated a divorce? If so, how many? If you’ve been happily married to the same partner, what do you think is the secret ingredient that keeps your marriage strong?

Nothing to see here

I have never been through a divorce. Does that mean I’ve lived an uninteresting life? Would it be more interesting if I could tell you about several failed marriages?

While I can’t say much about the first part of today’s question, I’ll give the second part a shot.

My marriage

I spent almost 21 years with my late wife Jane and was married for 19. Most of those years were good, but we had some difficult moments.

When my mum died in 2008, Jane was depressed about an early miscarriage some months before. That was a low point in our relationship because she wasn’t there for me when I needed her. It was similar to the lack of support when my dad died two years before I first met Jane.
