Letting Go of Things with Intention Feels Satisfying

Spring cleaning with a purpose

I got a headstart on my spring cleaning this year. My mission was clear: to declutter and minimize items so that I could put the house up for sale and downsize to a rental apartment. It will be a small space for myself and my dog with an open invitation to my adult children to visit.

I am excited to start a new chapter in my life after my divorce and to have a space I can call my own. Letting go of the things in the marital house has been an emotional journey, with memories and emotions rising to the surface. It’s a much-needed cathartic process as I evaluate what I’d like to keep and what I’d like to let go.

Having a method to my madness is helping. I am making a dent, slowly but steadily. When I first met Jillian Amatt - Artistic Voyages on Medium, I was inspired by her minimalistic and nomadic lifestyle. Starting early was one of the takeaways from her experience. I won’t go into how many trips I’ve made to drop off donations, but I want to share some things that have been meaningful and fulfilling in some ways.
