Love Comes in Many Shapes and Sizes
Ours came with years filled with meows
Julia A. Keirns wants two photos — a before and after — and for me to tell the story. Julia, I’m so glad you asked.
No one who knew me as a child would ever have guessed that one day, my canine obsession would groom me to become an avid cat lady. Neither did I foresee that my outgoing childhood personality would morph into the introvert I’ve become.
So, living in a household ruled by cats made perfect sense. There was no need to walk outside to socialize and no pressure to exercise. Since joining the ranks of cat ownership with my husband, Ed, I’ve enjoyed a life unlike I’ve ever known.
It’s not as if I’ve never owned cats before. I have, but I’ve not felt this depth of love (or loss) for a feline before meeting Skye. This ivory beauty was Ed and my firstborn, adopted from the local Humane Society in 2015, and her presence brought us closer with each year she was in it.
Skye taught us responsibility, patience, and how loving a cat, on her terms, can be as fulfilling as setting the house rules, even if we secretly knew we were her pawn. Our angel wrapped us around her furry paws, and while forever shy, she brought us joy every day she breathed life.
