Settling Back into Life in Australia
My last whinge, I promise
Each time I return from a few months in Europe, I find it hard to settle. I’m not so shocked by the supermarket prices any longer. I expect them to be so much more expensive than everywhere in Europe.
But I’ve never returned before Christmas and had dinners to attend. Last night, a few of us Sisters (friends not real sisters) got together at a local restaurant. It’s on the lake and is air conditioned so it was really pleasant. What wasn’t pleasant were the prices.
I chose the cheapest thing on the menu. Lambs fry and bacon at $17.95. The other options were in excess of $25. Some were more than $30!
A glass of Chardonnay set me back $9.90. The meal was entrée sized so I needed dessert. I had the choice of two cakes or ice-cream.
I chose ice-cream because I find most cakes too dry but also I thought the ice-cream would be cheaper. I don’t know how much the cakes were but the plain vanilla ice-cream was $9.
That’s my last whinge about the prices in Australia! There’s nothing I can do to change it so I just have to suck it up. And there are some good things about the country I begrudgingly call home.
