The First Book I Read
And I still own
asks: Do you remember your first book?
What book are you reading now?
Why do you still read?
Of course, I remember my first book! Heidi’s Children. I wasn’t what you’d call a reader at primary school, but I was a bit of a nerd. I would read geography question-and-answer books and learn every answer, including countries, rivers, mountains, and capital cities, but I never learned flags. Our books back then didn’t have illustrations in colour, so I still don’t know flags.
After Heidi’s Children, I read Heidi and then Heidi Grows Up. Of course, I wanted to go to Switzerland, and I have, twice! I loved it, but didn’t love the prices.
They were my kickstart to reading. I fell in love with Anne of Green Gables and have wanted to see Prince Edward Island ever since. That hasn’t happened — yet. I’m the eternal optimist, aren’t I?
Apart from reading Medium stories, I’m reading Head Over Heel written by Australian Chris Harrison. He falls in love with an Italian girl and follows her to Italy. It’s the type of book that I love to read: memoir/romance, and he’s funny.
Reading takes me into another world where I can escape the drudgery of my existence. That’s hyperbole — my life is anything but boring.
If you can remember the first book you read, hop onto Paul’s challenge.
Don't forget to tag Paul so he can read what y’all are reading.
