‘We Two, Ours Two’ Happened in June
Everything was preordained
: Share a significant event that happened in June. What made it memorable?
“Hum do, humare do,” which translates to “We two, ours two,” was the Indian government’s tagline used to control the population explosion in the 1980s. Ever since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to have two children. I didn’t know with whom, but it was also drilled into me that it should be before I turned 30. There is something to be said about early messages that stay on and shape the way we lead our lives.
I was a week past my due date with my firstborn and needed to be induced. Although my daughter arrived a week later than the due date, she made motherhood look easy. So easy that I managed to finish my dissertation study and graduate by the time she turned nine months. I would leave her with toys on the floor while writing my dissertation, and she entertained herself for good chunks of time.
I was 30 when I became pregnant with my second child. Yes, everything was working according to my preestablished timeline.
My husband had already moved to Tokyo while I was pregnant, and the plan was for him to visit for a week to be present for the birth of our second child.
