Why Make New Year’s Resolutions?

You can’t improve on perfection and you can’t fix whatever mess I am

I’ve bought the bubbly. The treats are in the fridge for tomorrow night. I’m ready to party like it’s… any other damn night of the year. I’ll have my cozy footie jammies on by 8 pm (that’s if I get out of them at all). And if I do manage to stay up until midnight, it won’t be to turn the page on the calendar. Most likely it’ll be because I don’t want to put my book down.

And I won’t be making any resolutions. New Year, new me, is a fine idea and Iban Van der Zeyp wants to know all about it:

Many people make New Year’s resolutions. Are you someone like that? If not, why? If so, have you ever been able to follow through with such a resolution? What was it?

But it’s not a thing I do for several reasons.

First, I strongly suspect the whole resolution crap is nothing less than a marketing ploy by the gym and diet industries. Every single year, millions of people vow faithfully to diet, eat properly, blah, blah, blah.
