That’s the way the cookie crumbles is the prompt by

for The Challenged, October 1st writing task. The cookie I chose to write about crumbles, alright, right into my mouth!

When I was little, there was a department store in our mall that had a bakery. This was in the late 60s and early 70s. The name of the store was Sibley’s.

My favorite cookie from that bakery was the Chinese Marble Cookie. It was a shortbread cookie with chocolate swirls throughout. Buttery and delicious, it was what I always wanted when my grandma or mother asked me what I wanted as a treat.

For years, I sought the recipe with no luck.

Then, about ten years ago, I found it online. I don’t think it is the exact Sibley’s recipe because this one uses baking chocolate that is melted rather than cocoa powder, which seemed to be in the cookies I remember. But I could be wrong. In any case, the recipe is close to what I remember.
