#3: Here is Why I Wrote For Students
I said to myself, “I will go and learn how our fellows study… I will practically apply it and impart it to my classmates for our eventual success in our studies.”
You’re right! Maybe I haven’t been consistent lately and I deserve your blame. Especially, with all that life throws in my way. In fact, to most of us. Lots and tones of work to do and make effective efforts for greater success.
I don’t take for an excuse, but may I then take this moment to apologize for such mistakes that may happen in my storytelling platform.
I take responsibility of it, and I kindly welcome you all back to my platform for today’s Youth Story. My own story. A story about my one simple book.
I therefore kindly ask for your attention to my simple and short story about my book.
During the heydays of my O-level studies at Agape Lutheran Junior Seminary, I encountered the challenge in planning and setting my study goals as I prepared for my Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (CSEE) that were due in November 2016.
I was not alone; most of my classmates also faced the same challenge. We did not know how to set study goals, plan and succeed in our upcoming National Examinations.
I therefore took a step further to search for the solution; wanting to know how I and the rest of my classmates could pass our exams with effective prior preparations.
Hence, during my last form 3 holiday in December 2015, I took the initiative to create a Whats App group that contained some of my classmates whom we got along quite well and could understand my cause of finding the solution; and some of the Alumni of Agape Lutheran Junior Seminary to share with us their experience and effective techniques for an eventual success in our O-level studies.
Within one month, we had gathered a lot of study techniques from our brothers and sisters who had successfully completed their O-level studies in the previous years at Agape Lutheran Junior Seminary which we then shared with the rest of our classmates at school after holiday and it really helped.
Secondly, in late January the following year, 2016 when I was in form 4; I was among the 8 students nominated by the school administration for a school exchange program trip to Kullagymnasiet, Hoganas, Sweden. This program was due two weeks.

Still focusing on our problem and challenge, I thought, “This is not for me and fantasy. I will go and learn how our fellows study and succeed in their studies. Through that gained knowledge, I will practically apply it and impart it to my classmates for our eventual success in our studies.” And I did that.
I learned a lot in those two weeks, starting with how to schedule our study days as with how our fellow Swedish students were used to; up to working really hard to attain good grades that one aspires to achieve.

I now practically applied the study techniques by setting my study goals, having a tight schedule and studying really hard to attain the first division in my Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations.
Nevertheless, I imparted the same spirit to my classmates by counselling them on studying matters, encouraging them and cooperating with them in study groups that we formed. We became encouraged and focused to attain division 1 and 2 in our Examinations. It was wonderful, and we anticipated good results in the end.
As on late January 2017, CSEE results were out. Our class including myself had done well in our exams. We were so happy with the results since we had worked really hard for such an achievement. I was happy that the problem and challenge was solved.
I proved now, that with effective prior preparations and application of study techniques; students can perform well in their exams.
I didn’t end up there!
I decided to sit down and write a simple book that contains several study techniques for effective preparations towards examinations.

I gave some free copies to the school administration and students were very happy with the book when they accessed it in the school library since it helped them set study goals, plan their daily studying schedules and study effectively for their eventual success in their studies.

A couple of months later, I started to receive good comments on the book and how it helped students embrace the culture of setting goals, planning and studying hard for their eventual academic success which is extremely vital.
For instance, an anonymous student texted me to say, “Congratulations for writing the book, it’s a big step and for the first time I saw it and read it; I was impressed. It has helped me move from one step to another making me a new person. So I said to myself, I will find you and congratulate you for that. Thank you!”

Later on, I received a volunteering call for motivational speaking by Tanzania Partnership Program (TPP), University of Dar es Salaam at Naitolia Secondary School in the rural parts of Lindi; and I am happy to have made an impact and at least solved the goals setting, and study planning challenge that faced students in my community and country.
