There were so many things I wanted to do as a child.

“Mummy, I want to be a pop star.”

I remember telling my mum when I was eight years old.

My name is Cara, and I am walking through Cherry Field, where my brother Josh and I used to read together.

There are many memories in this field, though I am now 28 years old, and I still have no idea what I want to do with my life.

“You must work hard to learn to dance and sing to be a pop star.”

I reflect on my mum’s words.

I did work hard.

I attended singing lessons and dancing classes. I learned how to perform on stage, and I became one of the best singers in my class.

I sighed as I heard my mum’s words echo in my head.

“You must work hard to learn to dance and sing to be a pop star.”

I gave up far too early, but I got bored, and the idea of fame scared me.

“Mummy, I want to sell flowers.”

The words echoed through my mind as I walked through beautiful flower patches in the field with Josh.

I stop to smell the roses.
