Why we think (good) content is the key to social media

Hello there,
Thanks for stopping by!

As we publish our first Medium post (there are more to come!), it is a good moment to take the time and reflect on what has been happening here at WorkFor and on where are things going.

A little background

We have been working on some new things that will be ready in the near future and that will hopefully get you as excited as we are.

But for the moment, let’s dive into other, also exciting stuff. This past summer we have been thinking a lot about social media and in particular, what does it mean, as a business, to have an online presence in 2017.

While social media is now indispensable for businesses, it has also become something that some companies do for the sake of it. Blog posts, banners and content are produced and published on the web in enormous quantities every single day. But while quantity may be the answer for some, the fact that our attention span is now eight seconds long, means that a lot of that content is simply lost on the web. Forever.

Our take on content

Having actively searched for the way to approach content, we have come to create our own definition of it. Fun and entertaining, but also valuable, it’s what we believe every piece of published content should represent.

For this very reason, we’ve armed ourselves with our own Illustrator and Creative Team and began this journey enthusiastically (and with colorful banners, too!).

Our motivation is twofold. First, to produce content that is informational in a simple and easy-to-understand way. Thus, while the subject may at first seem boring, we believe the way one approaches it can make it fun and interesting.

Let’s just take an example. Only a minority of us are really interested in reading and learning about business expenses. Yet, this information is really important to know for the majority of people. Our experience of working with employees has only proved that the topic of business expenses is hard to comprehend, not least because companies do a poor job in taking the time to explain these to their employees. By providing two simple, yet interesting banners, we hope the notion of business expenses becomes more comprehensible.

Our second motivation is rooted in the idea that less is more.
By creating content that is representative of our values and culture as a team, we hope our online presence embodies the same image. Specifically, we are taking the same creative approach to social media that we apply in our day-to-day activities, and by this, we’re hoping to distill the notion that creativity is and should be embraced by everyone.

What’s next

Our approach to content is what has provided the motivation behind creating a new recruiting platform that encapsulates our ideas of how a job site should be. We are working very hard to launch this new product in the upcoming weeks. You can follow us on Twitter and Instagram to see it go live!

We are also in the process of redesigning our website, where our ideas about content and design will be closely incorporated.

We hope you will be part of this journey and follow us along with it!
