The ethics and the logic behind the zero and the one.

Technology operates using a zero and a one. Reducing behavior to a zero, and a one, and manipulating behavior using a zero and a one. This gives us artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and deep learning. Technology in general (and the impact of technology, in general).

This is taken a step further in machine learning, as the algorithm is extended to observe behavior, and, then modify itself. In short, if X, then Y, comes from if zero, then one. Dependent, again, on zero, and, one.

This takes us to datasets, and databases, and the analysis of data in general, no matter how large (or small) the data set or the database, all datasets, and data bases, relate the zero and the one. Again, in short, datasets, and databases, reduce to the zero, and the one. Datasets reduce, and expand, the zero and the one. And, also, the meaning of the zero and the one.

Data Analysis

The zero, and the, one, then, the analysis of data, in datasets, and databases, is used to make decisions. The decisions, then, impact behavior, human, and, otherwise. The behavior, then, impacts the zero and the one, the analysis of data, and the decision-making (there’s a circularity involved).

There is an embedded analogy, in all of this, that is logical. Logic, itself, depends on the zero, and the one. This is logical, even though it does not have to be logical.

The observation of data, the application of the data observation, the logic, and the decision making involved, comes from something humans call ‘intelligence.’ This applies, to all of us (all of everything, actually). Intelligence is dependent on the zero and the one, and the analysis of the zero and the one.

Intelligence

More simply, intelligence is nothing more than the analysis of data, and the analysis of the behavior of data.

Which is, in other words, the analysis of the observation called data. The observation of data. Observation as a substitute for the word analysis. And data.

So, now I’ve confused you.

To simplify, and clarify, we observe to produce an observation. We analyze to produce an analysis. We use the observation and the analysis to make decisions (we decision to make a decision).

Logic and Ethics

This brings us to the simple logic involved in data analysis (also known as decisioning). Logic is, always, based on the core relationship between the zero and the one. We have rules of logic that we follow, although, these rules of logic are now being called into question, in both biology, and finance.

In both cases there is an underlying ethical question about the application of data, and the application of logic. Algorithms can be structured against the rules of logic, and-or ethics. This is, because, quite obviously, algorithms, and data, computing, and technology, in general, has no knowledge of a human’s logic. Or, ethics.

The human dictates both the logic and the ethics, and this, is, now, being called into question by thought leaders in technology, logic, and ethics.

Literal and Figurative Zero and One

Yet, questioning aside, all of this, still, comes down to data. The X and Y. And, the zero, and the one.

We would not have an X and Y without the zero and the one. This is a striking statement that takes some time to ponder. Zero and one are circumference and diameter, literally. And, figuratively.

Most of us are comfortable with the figurative use of the zero and one. The zero and one as data, nothing more (or less). In fact, the figurative use of these characters is necessary for technology to operate. Although the literal use is equally important, because we could not do decisioning (we would not have logic) (or ethics) without a circular relationship between the zero and the one.

This is an abstract thought that requires concrete thinking.

Technologists and Implied Leadership

This means all technologists, no matter what the level of sophistication, are playing a leadership role. Regarding logic. And, ethics. As soon as they power up their machines to generate (or evaluate) code, they become the experts at the manipulation of data. And, also, logic. And, ethics.

It starts, and ends, with the circular relationship of the zero and the one.

So, we could stop here, and it would make no difference, and make no mention, because everybody knows this, and, no one, really, cares. People are oriented, and motivated, by what makes sense, and what is useful. And pointing out the circularity between the zero and the one, and its effect on technology, logic, decision-making, and ethics, is not going to change the circularity between the zero and the one.

On, the other hand, the deep learning involved is just that. Deep.

Technologists and Implied Circularity

The string of characters has meaning, and this meaning can be manipulated, to help (or hinder) humanity. At this point, in time, this is what humanity is focused on. The applications of the zero and the one. Without worrying, so much, about the origination of, the zero and the one.

All of this is circular. And, it’s okay. The circularity is what’s meaningful. To the zero and the one. The virtual persona of the zero and the one. The abstract thinker is attracted to the relationship between the zero and the one.

Which is really at the heart of technology, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, machine learning, deep learning, and mankind’s decision-making prowess. The logic, and the ethics, the logic of the ethics, and the ethics of the logic, are, at the moment, secondary.

Secondary thoughts. Secondary concerns.

Back to Basics

Everyone’s enamored of the power of the zero and the one. Not so much the reality behind the zero. And, the one.

Even so.

Conservation of the circle is the core dynamic in nature (explaining, and in control of, the zero and the one).
