You are both the stoic and the skeptic, and you choose one role or the other, depending on who you are with, and what you are faced with. For example, to deal with a skeptic, you are forced to be a stoic (or a skeptic yourself). And, to deal with a stoic, you are forced to be a skeptic (or a stoic yourself).

This is because the stoic and the skeptic form a necessary circle (you can’t have one without the other).

Therefore, as we all know (eventually experience) selflessness and selfishness are (by nature) evenly balanced (constant) (50–50) because the circle is conserved. Disagree? You are playing the role of skeptic (forcing the stoic to appear).
