JUG is not just coming in every morning, and cleaning the hallways; it isn’t just staying after school to to help out around the school. JUG is a lesson we all must learn. JUG is a chance for everyone to understand that Canisius is a culture. Every time you serve JUG, it is a chance for you to see that culture in action. When a teacher hands you a JUG slip, it’s because they’re trying to help you learn the culture of Canisius. The essence of JUG is not malicious, rather it is a learning opportunity.

JUG definitely isn’t something you’re going to want to wake up in the morning knowing you have to serve. Yet, JUG is never the busy work it may seem. There is a lesson to learn in everything, and in doing the work assigned to you, you learn that the true value is both fostering a sound work ethic and understanding the Canisius culture. The culture at Canisius is what defines us; it is what makes us a unique school. When you fail to understand what the culture here is trying to teach you, you must spend time pondering what it is you need to work on.

No one is perfect, and the purpose of JUG isn’t to try to make you a perfect person. JUG is there to teach you that your mistakes aren’t what make you who you are… it’s your way of fixing those mistakes that defines who you are.
