Five days into the new year, and 2016 is already starting to feel like a distant memory. Before completely turning the page on the year, I want to share some of my favourite photos from the year, taken at home and on travels across Canada and the United States. While it was my quietest travel year in a long time, I still saw some wonderful sights.

Here they are, chronologically.

Calgary: Peace Bridge

This was the first time I got to see Calatrava’s work. One of my favourite additions to the landscape in a long time.

Edmonton: Beyhive in the Rain

It was near freezing temperatures and pouring rain throughout Beyonce’s outdoor show in May. That did not put a damper on things one bit, especially during the tribute to Prince (seen here).

Rocky Harbour: Lights in the Distance at Dusk

The town of Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland, inside of Gros Morne National Park.

Minneapolis: Tower in the Sky

The top of the Campbell Mithun Tower, seen behind Saint Olaf’s Catholic Church, blends in with the clouds above.

Minneapolis: Northern Spark

Just outside of the Northern Spark all night festival.

Edmonton: Rain Against My Window

It was a stormy summer; this was a regular view throughout July and early August.

Brooks: Mid-Century Modern

The Tel Star Motor Inn in Brooks, Alberta. The glory days of motels.

Outside of Drumheller: Hoodoos

The Hoodoo Trail outside of Drumheller, Alberta. A marvel of nature.

Montreal: Murals

Murals across from the entrance to Beaubien metro station.

Ottawa: Alone in the Grand Hall

A solitary visitor wanders in the Grand Hall at the Canadian Museum of History.
