Note from the editor

We are a non-profit, hyper-local newsroom dedicated to providing credible, solutions-oriented journalism to underserved communities from Matabeleland. At a time when traditional media is in decline and many communities lack access to reliable information, our mission is to give voice to the stories that matter most at a local level and hold institutions accountable through fact-based reporting. Launched in 2017, we are independently staffed by young, passionate journalists committed to civic engagement and community empowerment. Through events coverage, slow and rigorous reporting on local issues, and creative collaborations, we aim to strengthen democratic discourse, address information needs, and spur positive change. Our award-winning journalism is modeled around community forums, training workshops, and creative partnerships with other outlets to produce audience-first journalism. Our well-rounded journalism is hyperlocal, inclusive, and human-centered and helps our audiences from the greater region of Matabeleland to expand the understanding of their deep-rooted challenges so that they are able to navigate them.
